Edmond B. Cabbabe, MD, FACS, Elected President of American Medical Association Foundation

Edmond B. Cabbabe, MD, FACS, of St. Louis has been elected President of the Board of Directors of the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation. Dr. Cabbabe is a past president of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society and the Missouri State Medical Association.

“We are excited to have Dr. Cabbabe as the President of the Board of Directors”, said AMA Foundation Executive Director Steven Churchill. “We look forward to what he will contribute to the AMA Foundation through his expertise in the health care industry and experience in philanthropic endeavors.” The AMA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, advances public health and medical scholarship by raising philanthropic support for physician-directed initiatives.

Dr. Cabbabe’s first exposure to the AMA Foundation was through a grant he received to provide pro bono tattoo removal of gang-related tattoos to aid in rehabilitating former gang members. His public service involvement also consists of treating children referred by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. He is an ardent writer who has contributed to more than 110 articles in both English and Arabic and has received journalistic awards for his work as editor for St. Louis Metropolitan Medicine.

A board-certified plastic surgeon in private group practice in St. Louis, Dr. Cabbabe has served on the AMA Governing Council of the International Medical Graduates as an alternate delegate and vice chair and is currently the chair of Missouri delegation to the AMA House of Delegates. Dr. Cabbabe is also a recipient of an AMA Foundation Leadership Award and the AMA Membership Outreach Recruitment Award.

He has received many additional awards including the Missouri State Medical Association Citizenship & Community Service Award, the Certificate of Special Recognition for Community Service and Volunteerism Award by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the “World of Children” award from the Progressive Youth Organization.

Dr. Cabbabe’s numerous leadership positions include presidency of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Association, National Arab American Medical Association, St. Louis Area Society of Plastic Surgeons, Missouri Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, National Arab American Medical Association Foundation, Missouri Physician Health Foundation, and Missouri Health Education Foundation. He is also a board member and past president of the Missouri State Medical Association Insurance Agency, as well as a board member of the Missouri State Medical Foundation and the Center for Patient Safety.

Dr. Cabbabe’s wife, Rima, is a pharmacist and past president of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Association Alliance and the National Arab American Medical Association Auxiliary. They have three children and six grandchildren. Their son, Samer Cabbabe, MD, is a plastic surgeon and practices with his father.
