Free Prescription-Drug Take-Back Program Available at Nine Police Stations

Missouri Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal (P2D2), a non-profit organization, has expanded its prescription drug take-back program from four to nine local police stations.

Now, local residents who have medicines they no longer need can dispose of them at permanent collection boxes across St. Louis County.  The service is free, anonymous and provides an environmentally-responsible means to dispose of unneeded prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

“Our goal is to keep unneeded medicines off the streets and out of our rivers,” said St. Louis County Police Captain Kenneth Williams, Missouri P2D2 President.  “We’ve added the Ballwin, Florissant, Sunset Hills Webster Groves and Olivette police departments to the four original St. Louis County stations – making it safe and convenient for local residents to responsibly dispose of medicine that they no longer need.”

Missouri P2D2 was founded by the St. Louis County Police Department, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Missouri American Water and the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District.  Additional funds and support are  provided by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Covidien. One of the largest programs of its kind in the U.S.,Missouri P2D2 collects about 3,500 pounds of drugs each calendar quarter Visit the Missouri P2D2 website at www.missourip2d2.org for maps and information about items accepted at the collection boxes.
