SLMMS Supports “Show Me You Can Quit” Smoking Cessation Campaign

Smoking is the single most avoidable cause of disease, disability and death in the United States. Inhaling smoke from burning tobacco contributes to more than 400,000 deaths yearly.

SLMMS is proud to join with the City of St. Louis Department of Health, St. Louis County Health Department, regional health organizations and anti-smoking advocacy groups from throughout the metro area April 13-17 with a single goal in mind – help local residents quit smoking. The partnership known as “Show Me You Can Quit” marks the first time St. Louis health systems, universities, employers, advocacy groups and health departments have joined forces to stress the importance of smoking cessation.

The event kicks off with media events and proclamations signed by the Mayor of the City of St. Louis and the St. Louis County Executive. Throughout the week, special events and activities related to Smoking Cessation Awareness Week will occur.

Show Me You Can Quit will first encourage smokers to talk with their doctor about quitting smoking.  SLMMS members are encouraged to provide tools to their patients, such as the Missouri Tobacco Quitline at 800-QUIT-NOW for free resources, or online at www.QuittersCircle.com
