SLMMS to Co-Sponsor Opioid CME Symposium on Saturday, April 21

Opioid Symposium for Physicians Set for Saturday, April 21, 2018

Registration is now open

Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits will be awarded

The St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society is pleased to co-sponsor “What’s My Role in Addressing the Opioid Crisis? – A Conference for Physicians Who Want to be Part of the Solution,” on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Emerson Auditorium at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield. SLMMS is partnering with Clayton Behavioral and the Missouri State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis to present the half-day workshop for physicians, with an all-physician line up of presenters.

The program will examine the current opioid health crisis and overdose epidemic, especially how it affects the St. Louis region. Two keynote speakers will help identify the most promising medical and harm reduction practices that have been used around the world to decrease opioid-related morbidity and mortality, as well as evidence-based strategies for effectively managing patients with chronic pain and/or opioid use disorder. It will also explore the benefits of buprenorphine treatment in primary and specialty care settings.

A panel discussion featuring four St. Louis area physicians will offer practical tools for physicians, illustrating how treatment of Opioid Use Disorder fits in the continuum of care – from the emergency department to primary care, use of the St. Louis County Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, overdose education and naloxone distribution, and practical strategies for buprenorphine treatment.

The conference is free of charge and open to all physicians, but advance registration is required. Up to 3.25 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits will be awarded for participation in the program.
