CMS Announces Proposed Medicare Payment Regulations

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on April 27 announced proposed regulations on the new Medicare payment models prescribed under the Medicare and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). Starting in 2018, physicians can choose to be compensated under the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) track or the Alternative Payment Model (APM) track. These tracks will replace Meaningful Use and PQRS. The regulations spell out in detail how these payment tracks will operate. Right now, these regulations are proposed and public comments are invited through June 27.
